I work a bit differently to other framers, this is due to working from a small home studio. Managing work flow can be challenging at times. The below few points highlight how I operate to help manage this.

Initial enquires are via email with any in person consultations requiring prior booking.

I am afraid I cannot accommodate ‘walk in’ enquires.

  • I have decided that I am not going to offer the following services … sorry!

    • Re-glazing for broken glass

    • General repair work to frames such as damage from transportation or dropping off the wall

    • I don’t work with ‘off the shelf’ frames from major mass production vendors.

    • Needle work such as samplers

    • Sports shirts framing

    • Large items over 1 meter

    • I also don’t price match - I price work in a fair manner for the work / materials involved.

Why? For me and my set up the above are time consuming and costly. Other framers will be better equipped to offer these services.

  • To receive an estimate for your project, please email me with - a description of the item, dimensions (height, width and depth, if applicable) of the total ‘paper size’, and a picture of the item. If you have purchased the item from a gallery, often the link to the gallery is sufficient.

Estimates are based on the information provide and can only be confirmed when reviewing the work in person. Estimates are valid for two weeks from the date issued, after which they are subject to change.

I provide my suggested design for the work, this of course can be tweaked to your taste.

I aim to reply within 4 working days. Estimates are provided by email only

    - - Please add my email address to your ‘safe sender list’, for Microsoft or ‘Add to Address Book’ for Mac, to prevent emails being lost in your ‘junk’ folder - -

  • If you are happy to proceed based on the estimated price for the project, we need to book in a time to review the item and design proposal in the studio.

If availability / time is an issue, it may be possible to book an early morning or evening ‘drop off’. This skips the in person consultation and we would pick up the details via email. However, I wouldn’t recommend this for more delicate or complex projects.

At this point a 40% deposit is required and only after that point is the project ‘booked in’.

Full payment (minus deposit amount) is required before receiving completed work.

  • All consultations, including dropping off / collecting work, are by appointment only.

Consultations offer an opportunity to review / tweak the proposed designs suggested with the initial estimate. It’s also an opportunity to closely assess the condition of the work being framed, noting any issues that might be a cause for concern, or require further investigation from a conservator.

Once the design has been confirmed and the project outlined the final costs will be confirmed.

Following the consultation, a follow up email detailing the points of the project, cost and timings are provided. This is normally provided a few days after the consultation..

In person consultations are limited to 20 mins per item, if you require longer please advise.

I can only accommodate one person at time in the studio. This is due to the limited size of the studio and proximity to dangerous machinery.

Consultations are available from 9:15 - 15:00 during weekdays and 9:00 - 10:10 on Saturdays. Please check opening hours.

  • A proposed lead-time is provided at the point an estimate is offered. This is then confirmed during the consultation.

As an average, I work to a three and half week lead-time from receipt of work.

During busy periods such as Easter and Christmas, this can be up to five weeks.

  • I accept all major credit / debit cards including ApplePay / GPay, I am a cashless business.

A 40% deposit is required before work can be accepted. The final balance is required before completed work can be received.

To redeem a Gift Certificate, please quote the unique code when first contacting me. A Gift Certificate cannot be exchanged for cash or used as a deposit. The actual Gift Certificate is required when booking work in, please bring this your item when attending the consultation / dropping work off.

For the avoidance of doubt, all Gift Certificate details are tracked by their unique code. This information will be considered correct and final.

  • When your item(s) are completed you will be contacted by email offering collection dates. Pictures of the final work will be included. The work is then wrapped ready for collection.

Please consider how you will get your framed work home. Frames can be big and heavy and might require a helping hand or a vehicle to safely get them home.

If booking a taxi please make arrangements before arriving. I am afraid I cannot offer a waiting area but the Waverley Arms Pub is just 10 meters opposite.

Unless otherwise previously agreed, completed work cannot be stored for longer than 10 days after being notified of its availability.

If work are left uncollected, a discretionary ‘storage and handling fee’ of £5 per day will be chargeable.

  • Frames need to be handled correctly, when lifted they should be held the right way up and held with one hand on each side of the frame.

Avoid holding the fame just from the top, this can stress the corner joints.

When storing frames, they should be laid on its back or leaning against a wall, bottom to top. Do not stack or store other items on the frame.

Avoid stressing or flexing the frame which might cause the glass to crack.

When hanging its best to use two fixing points this helps with levelling the frame but also reduces stress.

Don’t hang work in direct sunlight, above a radiator or other heat sources or in areas of changeable humidity such as bathrooms.

If I doubt please contact a professional hanging service.

  • My opening times are detailed here. There are times when I close for new commissions due to volume of work or working on personal projects.

I normally close for the Christmas period on the 23rd December, my last date for commissions required for Christmas is 7th December. I reopen in the New Year at the end of January / mid February..

  • With Covid still present, at times I will need to shut my business for mine an my families health. If you have work in production you will be notified at the earliest possible point.

It may also be required that face masks are worn during consultations. If you are unable to wear face masks, a remote Zoom meeting can be arranged.

If you are unwell / have any Covid-related symptoms as outlined by the NHS (click here), please contact me to rearrange consultations.
