I operate a bit differently than other framers due to working from a small home studio, which can present workflow challenges.
Initial Enquiries - Initial enquiries are handled via email. I provide an estimate and a basic design before booking a consultation.
Lead-Times - Working from a smaller studio offers the benefit of shorter lead times, approximately three and a half weeks. I also offer 'out of hours' collections; please enquire for availability.
Walk-in Enquiries - Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate walk-in enquiries, pre-booking is required.
Project Capacity - I have a limited project capacity and may close my books for new commissions at times. If you wish to wait, I am happy to keep you updated.
Contact Method - The best way to reach me is via email, as I often miss phone calls while in the middle of consultations or building frames.
Studio Space - Due to the small size of my studio and the presence of heavy machinery, I can only accommodate one person at a time. Additionally, for safety reasons, I cannot allow children or dogs in the studio.
For more information, please expand on the below headings…

I have decided not to offer the following services … sorry!
Re-glazing for broken glass
General repair work to frames such as damage from transportation or dropping off the wall
Stand alone mounts / stand alone frames / stand alone glass
Textiles, such as samplers
Sports shirts framing
Large items over 1 meter
I also don’t price match - I price work in a fair manner for the work / materials involved.
-
I create frames using a variety of raw wood species, which are hand-finished to highlight the wood's natural character. This process involves using paints, stains, waxes, and gilding with gold and metals. I do not stock many pre-finished frames, and none in a basic range.
I adhere to The Fine Art Trade Guild’s framing standards, specifically working at 'conservation' grade (now called 'Level 2 Best'). This ensures that all materials and techniques used meet this high standard to preserve the item being framed.
For glazing, I have switched from standard glass to specialty anti-reflective ArtGlass, which is superior and available in various UV grades, though it is more expensive.
As an example of pricing, an A4 print in a basic finish with a modest mount and AR glass has an approximate starting price of £125.
Please note that I use industry-standard pricing software that updates real-time data from suppliers. Material costs can fluctuate, so estimates are only valid for two weeks from the date provided.

To receive an estimate for your project, please email me with the following information:
A description of the item.
The dimensions (height, width, and depth, if applicable) of the total 'paper size'.
A picture of the item.
If you purchased the item from a gallery, providing a link to the gallery is often sufficient.
Please note:
Estimates are based on the information provided and can only be confirmed upon an in-person review of the work.
Estimates are valid for two weeks from the date issued and may change after this period.
I will provide a suggested design for the work, which can be adjusted to your preference.
I aim to respond within four working days. Estimates are provided via email only.
Please state your preferred contact method; otherwise, email will be used.
Important: To ensure my emails reach you, please add my email address to your 'safe sender list' (for Microsoft) or 'Address Book' (for Mac) to prevent them from being marked as junk.

If you are happy to proceed based on the estimated price for the project, we need to schedule a time to review the item and design proposal in the studio.
If scheduling is an issue, we may be able to arrange an early morning or evening drop-off. This would bypass the in-person consultation, and we would communicate the details via email. However, I do not recommend this option for more delicate or complex projects.
At this stage, a 40% deposit is required to book the project. Full payment (minus the deposit) is due before receiving the completed work.
Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.

All consultations, including dropping off and collecting work, are by appointment only.
Consultations provide an opportunity to review and tweak the proposed designs suggested with the initial estimate. They also allow for a close assessment of the condition of the work being framed, noting any issues that might cause concern or require further investigation by a conservator.
Once the design is confirmed and the project outlined, the final costs will be provided.
After the consultation, you will receive a follow-up email detailing the project points, costs, and timings. This email is usually sent a few days after the consultation.
In-person consultations are limited to 20 minutes per item. If you need more time, please let me know in advance.
Please note that only one person can be accommodated in the studio at a time due to its limited size and proximity to dangerous machinery.
Consultations are available from 9:15 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays and from 9:00 AM to 10:10 AM on Saturdays. Please check the opening hours.
-
A proposed lead time is provided when an estimate is offered and then confirmed during the consultation.
On average, I work to a three and a half week lead time from receipt of the work.
During busy periods, such as Easter and Christmas, this can extend up to five weeks.
-
I accept all major credit and debit cards, including ApplePay and GPay. Please note that I operate as a cashless business.
A 40% deposit is required to book in a project, this deposit is non-refundable. The final balance is due before the completed work can be received.
To redeem a Gift Certificate, please provide the unique code and recipient name when first contacting me. Gift Certificates cannot be exchanged for cash or used as a deposit and are not valid if expired. Please bring the actual Gift Certificate with you when attending the consultation or dropping off the work.
For clarity, all Gift Certificate details are tracked by their unique code, and this information will be considered correct and final.
To redeem a promotional discount, please mention it in your initial enquiry and ensure you present the original leaflet when placing your order.

When your item(s) are completed, you will be contacted by email with available collection dates. This will be in line with the expected time frame provided during our consultation. Please ensure you are available or have arranged for someone to collect the works on your behalf. I do not offer delivery or courier services.
Pictures of the final work will be included in the email, and the work will be wrapped and ready for collection.
Please consider how you will transport your framed work home. Frames can be large and heavy, so you might need assistance or a vehicle to safely transport them. If you plan to book a taxi, please arrange this before arriving. Note that I do not have a waiting area, but the Waverley Arms Pub is just 10 meters away.
Unless previously agreed, completed work cannot be stored for longer than seven days after you are notified of its availability. Please state your preferred contact method; otherwise, email will be used.
If works are left uncollected, a discretionary storage and handling fee of £5 per day will be charged.
-
Frames need to be handled correctly, when lifted they should be held the right way up and held with one hand on each side of the frame.
Avoid holding the fame just from the top, this can stress the corner joints.
When storing frames, they should be laid on its back or leaning against a wall, bottom to top. Do not stack or store other items on the frame.
Avoid stressing or flexing the frame which might cause the glass to crack.
When hanging its best to use two fixing points this helps with levelling the frame but also reduces stress.
Don’t hang work in direct sunlight, above a radiator or other heat sources or in areas of changeable humidity such as bathrooms.
If I doubt please contact a professional hanging service.

With Covid still present, at times I will need to shut my business for mine an my families health. If you have work in production you will be notified at the earliest possible point.
It may also be required that face masks are worn during consultations. If you are unable to wear face masks, a remote Zoom meeting can be arranged.
